Civil unrest. Protests. Police brutality. A pandemic. We have a lot going on as a country right now. Yet here at The Pilates School SF we believe there is hope for the future! Just as it is with learning Pilates, discomfort is an important part of growth.
As San Francisco begins to reopen, and we move into our brand new studio, we want to thank you all for being a part of the wonderful, inclusive, Pilates-loving community we have built together over the past three years. It may be slow going as we all find our footing in this new version of normal, but we intend to help you thrive!

THE PILATES SCHOOL
Getting Started with the Online Studio
1. Syncing your accounts. Current members must sync your Glofox and Online studio account. Click on the Online Studio option on www.pilatesschoolsf.com. Select "Subscriber Login". You must use the same email address we have on file in your Glofox profile. Then select "Forgot Password". An email will be sent asking you to create a new password. This will sync your accounts.
2. Registering for online classes. That's easy! Do what you've already been doing- simply continue to book your classes via Glofox. Once we resume in-studio classes be sure that you book the classes denoted as (Online).
3. Preparing for your Online Studio class. The Online Studio runs best on the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox. You need to have a stable internet connection of at least 50bps. If your internet is giving you trouble, we recommend purchasing an In-home Technical Kit & Installation option from our Online Store. These kits come with technical support to help you get the best in-home fitness experience.
4. Accessing previously recorded workouts. If your instructor has recorded a workout for you, it will appear in your Online Studio profile about 4 hours after the live workout finishes. Contact us if you cannot find the class you're looking for.
5. Accessing On-Demand classes. These classes will be listed in the "On-Demand" section of Online Studio and can be watched at any time. Contact us if you can not find a specific class.
6. Joining a Workshop Series (past or present). These classes are listed in the Series section of the Online Studio. You can register for these on Glofox under the Workshops tab.
Still having trouble? Our YouTube channel has a playlist called "Set-up & How-To's" . This playlist offers visual step-by-step guides for things like syncing your Online Studio account, or finding and booking classes.

The Online Studio is Officially Launched!
The Online Studio is up and running! Now you can access videos of all the classes and sessions you've taken. Simply select the workout you want to review, and get to work!
Since the shelter-in-place order we have worked hard to move our program online. Our goal was not to just survive, but to thrive! Using BigMarker, we have built a unique learning platform that gives you all the tools you need to develop and maintain an in-home Pilates practice. The Online Studio went live on June 8th, and we encourage you to log in to Big Marker and take a look around.
Once you log in you will see an on-demand library of all your recorded sessions. You will also have access to our "elective" classes like Pilates Pulse that apply Pilates principles to other movement formats.
We know you have all just about had your fill of mat classes, so we have worked out a special deal with local equipment dealers and manufacturers just for you!
Welcome to our brand new In-Home Equipment Leasing Program.
As of June 15th, TPS members can submit an application to lease equipment for 6 months, or opt for a rent-to-own arrangement. Imagine having your very own Reformer or Wunda Chair at home!
Wunda Chair: The versatile, space-saving option for members needing a compact piece of equipment.
Folding Raised Mat: Miss the in-studio mats? So do we. This options includes the beloved foot strap, as well as removable hand holds, and folds in half for easy storage.
Reformer: A great option if you have a little more space to spare in your home. Having a proper reformer at home opens up a world of exercises.
Universal Cadillac: Your all-in-one piece of Pilates equipment. Imagine a Cadillac, Tower, and Reformer combined into one item! Assorted springs and accessories are included.
Online Equipment Classes
Treat yourself to some Reformer Pilates in the comfort of your own home!
Are you excited!? Here's what you do: download the application from the Pilates School SF website and fill it out.
Anticipate the entire process taking between 1-3 weeks from the date you apply. This is due to application processing, lease approval, and coordinating the delivery/installation.
Please note that you must have been a TPS member for a minimum of 4 months to apply for an equipment lease. The process of applying for a month-to-month lease will involve a superficial credit check. This check will not affect your credit report. You must also supply proof of income. and upon approval, sign a leasing agreement.
Coordinating the delivery of your new equipment will require you to be at home and present a valid state ID or US passport to begin the installation. Depending upon the equipment you choose there may be an small installation fee added. All equipment leases are 6 months long, minimum.
If you know you want to commit to Pilates at home, you should consider the Rent-to-Own program. We are working with SF Fire Credit Union to offer you financing options. This program requires a more in-depth credit check, and the purchase price must be at least $2,500.
Please note that by choosing to participate in this program you are committing to buying the equipment. You cannot opt out half way through. You also cannot combine the Equipment Leasing and Rent-to-Own deals.
Starting in mid July we will offer online equipment classes. If you want to take part in this program, be sure to check your Glofox messages to give us feedback on the best days and time for our online equipment classes.
In-Home Equipment Leasing
Equipment Lease Options
The rules from the Health Department are designed to keep everyone safe, and we intend to follow them to the letter! But we promise to go above and beyond because our primary goal is keeping our community healthy.
Please note that we will refine these rules as the state and city release additional guidelines.
1. No more than 8! Given our 1800 sq ft studio space, we will never have more than eight people in the studio at one time. This number includes studio staff.
2. Fever Checks. You must submit to a contactless fever check to enter the studio. Any member with a fever above 99.0 will not be allowed to participate in class.
3. Coordinated start and stop. Avoiding cross-over between classes is essential to complying with rule #1. The eight people in the studio will arrive at the same time. All sessions will end at the same time, and students must leave promptly.
4. Deep cleaning. Classes will be shortened to 45 minutes to accommodate the need for a deep clean between clients. All items that were touched will be added to a detailed contact tracing log before letting in the next students.
5. 6ft of space per person. Every person in the studio must have 6ft of free space around them at all times. Spaces will be clearly marked. We may also require both you and your trainer to wear a cloth mask. The studio is equipped with an excellent air filtration system that we will have running.
6. No hands-on corrections. We know, we aren't thrilled about it either. But safety must come first. For the time being, trainers will not be allowed to touch anyone in the studio unless they are in danger of falling or at risk in some way.
7. Signed Studio Waivers. All students must sign a one-time studio waiver that details new policies and procedures due to COVID-19. You must sign the wavier to enter the studio.
New COVID-19 Studio Procedures
The San Francisco City Health Department released its reopening timeline last week. The Pilates School SF has joined a small community of micro-gym and wellness studio owners , and applied for an exemption based on the medical need of some of our clients.
We are currently waiting for the city Health Department to send us the strict health and safety guidelines we will be following to ensure the safety of those who choose to come in to the studio. We have been assured by the Health Department that we will be able to open for Private Sessions and Independent Workouts on July 5th.
As of today our reopening timeline is:
6/8 - Online Studio Launch
6/15 - In-Home Leasing Begins
6/28 to 7/5 - CLOSED
7/6 - In-Studio Private Sessions Begin
8/15"ish" - Gyms officially reopen

The Sutter Studio: Space to Grow Together!
When we first dreamed up The Pilates School, we never anticipated opening our first studio in the middle of not only a pandemic. but civil unrest, and a recession. Whew! Sure, circumstances may not be ideal, but when we look back on the last 3 years working and growing with all of you, we cannot help but feel excited and thankful despite the challenges ahead. Without your trust and support, The Pilates School SF would not exist today, much less be moving into our very first studio space. So we just want to take a moment to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts! *You* are the reason we have hope for the future.
So, let us tell you all about the space! We are taking over an 1800 sq ft space centrally located at 2600 Sutter St, at the corner of Baker. It is located near five major bus lines, and has ample street parking, as well as parking lots nearby.
The space is separated into two addresses (2600 and 2606 ) but the spaces are essentially one connected studio. We will be using half of it for the next year or so. The current occupant will continue to use the other half until Aug. 2021. As he transitions out, we will grow to take over the entire space. We have plans to convert an additional room into a private Pilates studio, and when it is safe to do so, we plan to have two massage/treatment rooms and bathroom/shower facilities.

Rae and Ray are determined to create a space that reflects the values of The Pilates School SF: making Classical Pilates affordable, authentic, and transformative. We want to share this truly life-changing method of movement with as many people as possible. By staying true to these values, we will continue to grow our wonderfully diverse, fun, and inspiring Pilates community in the coming years.
So what is next for The Pilates School SF? Our vision is to create a space where you can learn how to create a Pilates practice suited to your specific needs. We aim to bridge the gap between your studio workouts and your everyday life by offering a wide variety of classes and options. Lastly, we want to empower you to pass on what you have learned to others. With this move into our own space, we can finally start treating this like a real school of Classical Pilates.
Unlike other gyms, our ultimate goal is for you to not need us. We want you to grow beyond us. In order to accomplish that, we will give you the opportunity to treat your Pilates training like a more traditional education system. The essence of the program centers around our signature Core Classes where we focus on the strict discipline of Classical Pilates. You can add on Elective Classes, which are fun, Pilates-adjacent classes to add variety to your Pilates practice. You may also consider taking Workshops and Series which will allow you to take deep dives into a topic you are interested in.
Since this is a school, you obviously have the option to "graduate" from our program and start Open Studio training on your own. Alumni may also choose to start training to become a Certificated Classical Pilates instructor in our Teacher Training Program.

The Sutter Studio
The Pilates School SF: Values, Goals, Vision
The foundation of our program is the Signature Core Classes. These are pure Classical Pilates. Learn how to execute, build, and refine your Pilates practice.
All Core classes will have an optional "Online Binder" available via Google Classroom for those interested in that kind of structure. The binder will offer an easy way to keep track of your goals, notes, and specific modifications.
Every member of The Pilates School SF should take 1-2 Core classes a week.
Elective classes are the bridge between Pilates training and, well, whatever else you like in the vast fitness landscape. These are the classes that apply Pilates principles to other types of movement, making good posture and correct form feel like second nature.
These classes will pull from a variety of disciplines such as dance, cardio training, strength training, and yes, even yoga.
Pilates Pulse: The link between cardio dance and Pilates. A non-stop flow from rhythm-based movement to mat work to stretching. The class involves choreography to high energy music.
Cardio + Pilates: An essential workout for members whose goals include healthy and safe weight loss. The class starts with a fast-paced, rhythm and flow workout on the equipment. We will then mix in cardio interval training to get your heart rate up on the cycle, treadmill, or eliptical.
Cardiocore: The bridge between Pilates and popular full body aerobics class. Prepare yourself because this is a non-stop cardio workout focused on using your core muscles. We vary the aerobic format on a monthly basis from Step, to Hi-Lo, to Body Blast, to Kickboxing.
InTENsity + Pilates: Learn how to activate the appropriate muscle groups when doing activities like HIIT, weight lifting, or resistance training. This class uses interval strength training moves to create a circuit of 10 complex strength and/or Pilates Mat exercises. These circuits allow you to repeat each exercise and focus on improving your form.
Athletic Pilates: Use Pilates to improve your overall performance in competitive sthletic settings. Every month we focus on a different kind of athletic movement or sport. So if you need to step up your tennis game, or improve your running form, this class is made for you.
Pilates Stretch: A relaxing and rejuvenating flow through the Basic and Intermediate exercises with a focus on improved flexibility and grounding.
Pilates Meditation: This is the proverbial PiYo class, but done Pilates School SF style! Here we will apply Pilates principles to your Yoga practice by focusing on your alignment and core in common yoga poses.
Workshops and Series: We are all Pilates nerds, here. Deep dive with us into specific topics ranging from anatomy, to technique, to the theory behind Pilates.
Community Classes: Our 3x weekly donation-based Pilates mat classes open to the public. No charge for members to join.
Graduates of our program become eligible for Open Studio membership. Once approved, you will have access to the Private Pilates studio for your own personal workouts at a fraction of the cost of regular classes.
For those graduates that want to pay it forward, you may consider applying for the Teacher Training program in 2021. This is an 18 month certification in which you will earn both a certification from the Pilates School SF and a Classical Pilates Teacher certification from the world-renowned M.A.T program taught by Dorothee VandeWalle, Master Teacher Trainer!

We know that a lot of people are struggling right now, both financially and otherwise. We truly appreciate that so many of you have continued to train with us through these difficult times. Trust us, we know that it has not been easy to focus on Pilates training.
One of the key tenets of our The Pilates School is making Pilates accessible, and that means that we want to help you if you are struggling. We empathize completely with the strife of joblessness, the loneliness of SIP, and the constant stress that COVID-19 has added to our lives. Please know that we can find our way through these time together. No matter your current economic situation we are committed to forging ahead together.
