Iqra's
Assalamou Alaikum everyone! This month, Iqra Students really gave it their all to support CIBC's Run for the Cure. The primary students watched Peep and the Big Wide World and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 on October 2nd as part of a movie day to raise money, while there were numerous goodie sales, such as the Grade 5 bake sale. All profits went towards the charity, alhumdulilah.

Grade two field-trip to the
honeybee centre
The Grade 2s had a great time at the Honeybee center. They learned a lot and really enjoyed tasting the honey. The students were amazed when they saw the different types of bees!
On the field trip we went to the Honeybee Centre. We learned that the queen bee kills its sisters to be the queen by itself because there can only be one queen. Also I liked the part when we made crafts like the candle and the plant. -Tamara Alqarrain (Grade 2-2)
This year, Iqra decided to host a Fitness Challenge! For the primary classes, this challenge was held on school grounds, while for Grade 4s and up, this mean running about two kilometers around the neighbourhood, supervised by teachers and volunteers. At the end of an exciting, adrenaline filled day, students had an assembly to celebrate their achievements!

Student Vote Day
Grade 5 Hosts the Elections This term grade 5 hosted the Iqra’s very first student vote. In this event, intermediate students got to vote between the 5 main parties which are Liberals, Conservatives, NPD, Green Party and Bloc Quebecois. Grade 5 wanted to host this voting process to get student educated on the voting process. Other than the vote, grade 5 made their classroom look like the real elections. Some groups made projects about the different parties and presented it to grades 4-7. In this experience, students had to cooperate with each other and learn presentation skills. In conclusion this was a very fun experience. We are looking forward to doing this in 4 years again. -- Soha and Shams

We had a lot of wonderful contestants from the Intermediate Grades and ended up with 3 finalists from the 4-5 block and another 3 from the 6-7 block. InshaAllah in November they will complete in the finals for their finishing places!
Farwah Arslan from Grade 6-2 recited the Surah Alaq in front of a crowd of 350+ people gathered to raise funds for educating children in Pakistan. MashaAllah! We are so proud to hear of your contribution to the lives of Muslim children in need! May Allah reward you.
