Sunday Worship
(Erwin Lutzer) “God will not merely judge us on the basis of what we gave but also on the basis of what we did with what we kept for ourselves.” (Ronald Sider) “What happens when God grants the gift of genuine Christian fellowship? Deep, joyful sharing replaces the polite prattle typically exchanged by Christians on Sunday morning. Sisters and brothers begin to discuss the things that really matter to them. They disclose their inner fears, their areas of peculiar temptation, their deepest joys.” (John Piper) “(God) intends for us not merely to do to others as we would have them do to us, but he wants us tofeeltoward other believers a certain way. It is true that love is more than feelings. It is true that there are good ways we should treat each other even when we are feeling upset with one another. But it is not true to say that God is content with our treating each other decently while feeling hard toward each other.”

Presider: Jason Ju Preacher: P. Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 98:1-6 “Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!” SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Isaiah 55:6-9 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #25 – THE SACRAMENTS 65. Since, then, we are made partakers of Christ and all His benefits by faith only, where does this faith come from? The Holy Ghost works faith in our hearts[1] by the preaching of the Holy Gospel, and confirms it by the use of the holy sacraments.[2] [1]Jn. 3:5; *Rom. 10:17. [2]Rom. 4:11; *Acts 8:37. 66. What are the sacraments? The sacraments are visible holy signs and seals appointed by God for this end, that by their use He may the more fully declare and seal to us the promise of the Gospel, namely, that of free grace He grants us the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life for the sake of the one sacrifice of Christ accomplished on the cross.[1] [1]Gen. 17:11; Rom. 4:11; Deut. 30:6; Heb. 9:8-9; Ezek. 20:12. 67. Are both the Word and the sacraments designed to direct our faith to the sacrifice of Christ on the cross as the only ground of our salvation? Yes, truly, for the Holy Ghost teaches in the Gospel and assures us by the holy sacraments, that our whole salvation stands in the one sacrifice of Christ made for us on the cross.[1] [1]Rom. 6:3; *Gal. 3:27; *Heb. 9:12; *Acts 2:41-42. 68. How many sacraments has Christ instituted in the New Testament? Two: Holy Baptism and the Holy Supper. If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM LATIN AMERICA Please pray for our teams in Latin America as they walk alongside survivors and our partners during the pandemic. Many countries in the region are struggling to contain major outbreak, and experts wonder if Latin America could become the new epicenter for the pandemic. Also, as lockdowns last, the increase of violence against women and children in the region continues to be alarming. Pre-pandemic Latin America had the highest rates of violence against women and children in the world, with 81% of the cases reported globally coming from that region; lockdowns put many more at risk. Pray that victims of violence will be able to break the silence and ask for help in this time, and pray for police officers around the region to be able to respond quickly to protect and restore them. SOUTH-EAST ASIA Last week we released a global study on online sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines. Pray that governments and tech businesses would take the recommendations for protecting children from this violent crime, and that the children who need rescue now would be protected by a system that works.
