(Matthew Henry) “The woman was formed out of man—not out of his head to rule over him; not out of his feet to be trampled upon by him; but out of his side to be his equal, from beneath his arm to be protected, and from near his heart to be loved.” (Mary Elizabeth Braddon) “How are our churches beautified, our sick tended, our poor fed, our children taught and cared for and civilized? Do you think the masculine element goes for much in these things? No. Women are the church’s strong rock. As they were the last at the foot of the cross, so they have become the first at the altar.” (“…and at the empty tomb.” ed. JJ) (Donald G. Bloesch) “The model of woman in tribal patriarchalism is the brood mare; in hedonistic naturalism, she is the bunny or plaything; in feminist ideology, she is the self-sufficient career woman; in romanticism, she is the fairy princess or maiden in distress waiting to be rescued; in biblical faith, she is the partner in ministry.” (“And coheirs with Christ.” ed. JJ)
Presider: David Daebii Choi Preacher: Jim Jung CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 66:13-20 “I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will perform my vows to you, that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul. I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!" SILENT CONFESSION Let us prepare our hearts by privately confessing our sins to our loving Heavenly Father. Be honest before God, and bear your heart and soul to Him. Thank Him and Praise Him for the good things; and confess those sins you knowingly and unknowingly commit, even the sin of omitting the good that you ought to have done. (Silent Private Prayer) ASSURANCE OF PARDON (In Christ, our sins are covered!) Romans 8:1-2, 2 Corinthians 5:17 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.… Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” PRAYER OF ADORATION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism – Lord’s Day #18 – OF GOD THE SON 49. What benefit do we receive from Christ's ascension into heaven? First, that He is our Advocate in the presence of His Father in heaven. Second, that we have our flesh in heaven as a sure pledge, that He as the Head, will also take us, His members, up to Himself. Third, that He sends us His Spirit as an earnest, by whose power we seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God, and not things on the earth. 50. Why is it added: “And sitteth at the right hand of God?” Because Christ ascended into heaven for this end, that He might there appear as the Head of His Church, by whom the Father governs all things. The Bible gives us an enduring principle of tithing of our gross income as the baseline for the Christian’s worship through giving (2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:8-10). If every church member gave 10%, we would have enough financial resources for all the gospel ministry God is calling our church to do. Let the Spirit guide you in all final matters. How did God use the inequality of authority to redeem mankind in Jesus? What does it mean to love/lead like Jesus? And what does it mean to submit/love like Jesus? What was the most helpful/challenging/encouraging part of the sermon for you? PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES THE HANS Joshua and Christina Han are back in Melbourne with their two sons. Please pray for them as they find rest, catch up with loved ones, prepare for ministry and mission work ahead, the uncertainty of timing of returning to their mission field due to COVID-19, and their team members that have remained in South Asia to help aid the affects of COVID-19 (for their health and safety). May God continue to spread the gospel and His word in spite of the challenges of the current situation. PRAYER FOCUS FOR OPPRESSED PEOPLES THROUGH IJM AFRICA & EUROPE As we have seen in several of the countries where IJM teams combat violence against women and children, instances of domestic violence have gone up as lockdown measures trap women in homes with abusers. This is true across both Africa and Europe, where the virus has caused many nations to enact strict lockdown procedures. Pray for the women who are suffering in their homes, for an end to domestic violence deaths and for law enforcement to be equipped to receive and respond to reports AUSTRALIA IJM Australia is providing a written submission to DFAT’s public consultation on its International Strategy on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery 2020-2024. Please pray that our submission will clearly articulate key measures for ending slavery and will be used by the Australian government to formulate their strategy.
1. Adoration Praise the Father for His attributes and actions 2. Confession Confess and acknowledge your sinfulness 3. Thanksgiving Thank Jesus for His salvation 4. Supplication Ask the Spirit to transform you
