Sub-When life gives you GREEN TOMATOES, make JAM!
Each fall, preserving our garden produce presents a plethora of learning possibilities. This fall we experienced a new "opportunity" when our tomato vines, full of green tomatoes, had to be harvested in a hurry before the first hard frost. So, we got busy picking what was ripe and what wasn't. Then, with buckets full of green tomatoes, we set to work researching if or how we could use them... We landed on two different recipes -- Green Tomato Cake and Green Tomato Strawberry Jam. In the end, our learners weren't necessarily "sold" on eating green tomato anything, but they bravely tasted their Teaching Kitchen creations and offered positive praise!
Students in Mrs. Hohenstern's first grade class have been busy writing about their thinking in Thoughtful Logs this week. After reading a story together, students get to choose a writing prompt to respond to the text. They are all such hardworking readers and writers!
